Edward A. Kovac, age 81, of Calumet City, IL passed away Thursday, September 16, 2010. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Genevieve H.; 2 children, Anthony (Michele) Kovac of Crown Point, IN and Julie (Christopher) Fleming of Lowell, IN; 4 grandchildren, Paul Rojkowski, Macensie Kovac, Savannah and Jessica Fleming; 2 brothers, Joseph Kovac and Ernest (Ann) Kovac of Chicago, IL; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary Kovac, brother, Bernard Kovac , and sister, Margaret Simkovich. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 18, 2010 at 10:45 AM from LaHayne Funeral Home, 6955 Southeastern Ave., Hammond, IN and 11:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Andrew Church, 768 Lincoln Ave., Calumet City, IL with Rev. Jacek Dada officiating. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Friday, September 17, 2010 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the funeral home. Edward was a lifetime resident of this area, served in the US Navy from 1946-1949, retired as a welder from Republic Steel Co, and was a member of the National Slovak Society, Steelworkers Local # 1033 and the USS Tarawa CV-40 & LHA-1 Assn.
