Dorothy Edna Bodenhofer nee Peterson, age 97, former resident of Highland and Hammond, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2017 at Wittenberg Village Nursing Home in Crown Point, Indiana. She was born in the house her father built on February 10, 1920 to Charles and Signe Peterson. She graduated from Hammond High School and married Raymond C. Bodenhofer in 1943. Dorothy was the beloved wife of Ray for 33 years. She is survived by her three children: Dona (John) Webber of Harwich, Massachusetts, Carl (Mary) Bodenhofer of Hammond Indiana, and Lori (Tim) Orr of Crown Point, Indiana. She was a cherished grandmother to seven; Jay (Sara) Webber of Florida, Andrew (Ashby) Webber of Georgia, Carrie (Jason) Sovola of Indiana, Amy (Jason) Ward of New Hampshire, Dawn (Kevin) Mann of Minnesota, Megan (Eric) Beard of Indiana and Jennifer (Colin) Dow of Connecticut. She also leaves behind nineteen great grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews, including Elaine Peterson Knoezer, whom she loved like a sister. During the war she worked for Dupont and in later life she was a cashier for Sterk's. She was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hammond and Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Highland. She spent her last five years attending the Crown of Life Chapel at Wittenberg Village. Her hobby was crocheting, and everyone who knew her had many hand made dish cloths and afghans in their homes. The family would like to thank the staff at Wittenberg and Harbor Light Hospice for the loving and compassionate care they gave to Dorothy.
