David J. Mote, age 92, US Marine Corps Veteran of WWII, of Fenton, MI and formerly of Hammond, IN, passed away on Tuesday, March 08, 2016. Loving father of Ronald "Ron" Mote and Cynthia "Cindy" (Michael "Mike") Cole. Proud grandpa of Brett Cole and Lauren Cole. Fond uncle of many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews. Preceded in death by his wife Virginia Mote nee Borowski his parents Clarence and Alma Mote nee Hoppe his brothers Robert "Bob", Herbert "Herb" and Kenneth "Kenny and his sister Mildred. Except in his later years, David was a life-long resident of Hammond, IN. He built his home, working on it for 1 year, of which he was very proud of it all his life. David graduated from Hammond High School where he participated in sports, especially enjoying his time as a wrestler and co-captain of the team. Upon graduation, he entered the Marine Corps, serving in the Pacific during World War II. His trade was a pipe fitter and he retired as co-owner of R. Young & Co. in Gary, IN. His interests included sailing, roller skating, working in his garden and yard, and listening to the music of the big band era. David was a true gentleman of his generation, always kind and generous. His greatest loves were for his wife, children, grandchildren, extended family, home, neighborhood, and country.
