Obituary

Charlotte Louise Broderick, age 89, of Hammond, IN passed away Sunday October 4, 2026, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, IN.

Charlotte was born in Narrows, KY to her loving parents Denver and Marie Fentress. She moved to North Hammond at the age of five. She attended Hammond Technical Vocational High School.

She married George Broderick Sr. at an early age and had recently celebrated 72 years of marriage. She raised three sons; George Jr., (Heidi Little Crist), Ronald (Vickie Johnson), and Robert (Susan Rucinski) and was a bonus mother to several nieces and nephews. She is proceeded in death by her parents Denver and Marie Fentress, her sister Nelda, brother-in-law John Cottrell, brother William Fentress, and two of her sons George Jr. and Ronald. Charlotte was a devoted grandmother to four grandchildren; Ronald Denver (Jodilyn) Broderick, Jennifer Danielle Broderick, Emily Marie (Dan) Ridenour, and Zooka Charlotte Joan Broderick. She was loved and admired by five great grandchildren (Nick, Amelia, Abigail, Jackson and Addison), several nieces, nephews, cousins, and family friends. Her best friend throughout her life has been Jackie (Spiller) Moore. She loved being visited by several of her son’s high school friends who continued their visits decades after graduation - even within weeks of her death.

Charlotte loved to do interior decorating and was known to frequently redecorate her own home. She had designed and sewn many of the items she used, and visitors to her home are always in awe of her work. She also made clothing for her children and grandchildren and knitted and crocheted several afghans, (personalizing many as gifts for weddings and other occasions). Charlotte was well known as someone who helped those in need of wallpapering or decorating expertise, and for supplying food for family and friends’ events.

She deeply loved her family, and grieved for all the aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and in-laws that had passed away. May Charlotte rest at peace in the beloved company of her parents and her boys, George and Ronald.

She will be greatly missed.

Friends are invited to visit with the family on Sunday, October 11, 2026, from 3:00 PM-7:00 PM at LaHayne Funeral Home located at 6955 Southeastern Avenue, Hammond, IN 46324.
