Andy Panchisin, age 94, US Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II, of Muncie and formerly of Hammond, passed away surrounded by his family on Friday, July 15, 2016. Beloved husband for 70 years to Lucille Panchisin nee Ferro. Loving father of Gail (Norm) Gayda of Muncie, Indiana and Linda (Dave) Gnass of Florida. Devoted brother of Ann (Loyd) Elkins of California. Proud grandfather of Leanne (Rich) Sinks, Lynne (Jeff) Clapman, Melanie Gnass, and Erin Gnass. Dearest great-grandfather of Dylan Sinks, Lauren Sinks, Allison Sinks, Brady Sinks, Trevor Clapman, Morgan Clapman, and Abigail Clapman. Fond uncle of many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his infant son Keith Panchisin and his infant daughter Luanne Panchisin, his parents George Panchisin and Anna Panchisin nee Dranchak, and his brothers George Panchisin, John Panchisin, and Joe Panchisin. Andy served 3 years in the Army Air Corps in WWII in China, India, and Burma. He was the co-owner of Pla-Time in Hammond for 40 years, along with his three brothers. Besides his love for his wife Lucille for 70 years, Andy's biggest love was for the Chicago Cubs who he followed for over 70 years. He and Lucille spent many vacations in Las Vegas and enjoyed visiting the local casinos. Being a part of all family events was his favorite thing to do as he has seen 4 great-grandchildren graduate high school and even 1 graduating college. He was loved by many and will be missed by even more. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at LaHayne Funeral Home , 6955 Southeastern Ave., Hammond, IN. Lying in State on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 from 9:30 AM until time of Mass at 10:00 AM with Reverend Charles Niblick, Pastor officiating at Saint Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 500 Northgate Drive, Dyer, Indiana. Interment to follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Hammond, Indiana. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Saint Lawrence Catholic Church, 820 East Charles Street, Muncie, Indiana 47305.
