Alice A. Gamez nee Vasquez, age 81, of Hammond, passed away on Tuesday, March 01, 2016. Beloved wife of John Gamez, Sr whom together they shared 63 years of a good, devoted life. Loving mother of Diana (John) Golarz, Betty (Bill) Shantz, John (Carol) Gamez, JR, Theresa Massey, Tricia (Phil) Troxel-Stewart, Lorranine (Pete) Peterson, Kathy (fiancé Glen Hill) Ghormley, Chris Gamez, Albert (Dawn) Gamez, and Maria (Ricky) Wiening. Devoted sister of Terri (late Lupe) Velasquez and sister-in-law of Bea Vasquez. Proud grandma of Helena (Bob) Hamilton, Joe (Melanie) Golarz, Brian (Veronika) Golarz, Matthew Golarz, Justin (Nora) Jablonski, Nathan (Kaleigh) Jablonski, Clifford (Alisha) Pearson, John A. Gamez, Adam (Katelyn) Gamez, Michelle Massey, Kara Massey, Andrew Troxel, Kelsey Troxel, Jennifer (Eric) Meier, Brandon (Esmeralda) Peterson, Shane (Melissa) Ferree, Megan Ferree, Kyla Gamez, Katie Wiening, Derrick Wiening, Anthony Janiga, Nick Janiga, and Allison Janiga. Dearest great-grandma and great-great-grandma of many. Fond aunt of many nieces and nephews. Very special friend of Caryn Janiga, Diane Satterfield, Vaughn Massey, and Bruce Troxel. Loyal friend to her faithful dog Sam. Preceded in death by her son Frank "Monte" Gamez, her parents Frank and Anna Vasquez nee Rodriguez, and her brothers Frank Vasquez and Robert Vasquez. Alice was a lifelong Hammond resident and a longtime member at St. John Bosco Church. She loved her trips to Vegas and to the casino boats. Alice was a great cook who enjoyed cooking for her family and for parties. She loved to kick off her shoes and dance. Alice loved all her lifelong friends from her Bunco Club. She was lovingly known as "Grandma G" throughout the neighborhood. Alice was loved by many and will be missed by more.
