Obituary

Alfred "Al" "Bud" A. Geurts, Jr., Age 90, of Hammond, Indiana passed away and joined our heavenly Father on Monday, July 31, 2017 at Community Hospital Munster, IN. Born July 12, 1927 in Hammond, Indiana; son of Alfred and Clara (Hansen) Geurts. A native of Hammond, Indiana, attended Clark High School and a member of Woodmar United Methodist Church. He served in the Navy as Seaman 1st Class on a destroyer in World War II from 1944-1945 and was drafted USAR 101st Airborne as a Sgt. in the Korean War 1950-1951. On April 21, 1951 married his beloved wife Elizabeth Ann "Liz" Self. Al spent his lifetime in the service station business as proprietor of a TEXACO and AMOCO service station. July 30, 1975 he founded Alamo Auto Service Center located at 6923 Hohman Avenue Hammond IN. He was co-owner of the All American Racing Team. He is a member of American Legion Hammond Post #126 and a long time member of the Hammond Evening Lions Club serving as President and held several Executive roles. He is survived by his beloved wife Elizabeth "Betty" and Loving Father of Daughters, Jane "Jane Ann" (Wayne) Duncanson of Hammond, Janice (David) Dobrinich of Munster, Susan (Jeff) Osborne of Atlanta, GA, Sharon (Tom) Jukes of Terre Haute, and Son Alan (Tracie) Geurts of Hammond. Devoted Grandfather of Grandchildren Lori (Eric "Rick") Berdine, Lisa (John "Jake") Cory, Jennifer (Matthew "Matt") Havlin, Sara and David Dobrinich, Katie and McKenna Osborne, Thomas and Mary Jukes, Heather (Jesse) Parkerson, Megan (Winston) Hunter, Shelby Geurts and Kyle Bunton. Great Grandfather to Nicholas and Alex Berdine, Alyssa, Brandon, John and Zack Cory, Kylee, Connor and Samantha Havlin, Indy Parkerson and Westley Hunter. Sister Maxine Stimler and numerous nieces and nephews. Al is preceded in death by parents Alfred and Clara Geurts, Brother Ray Nelson, Brother-In-Law Richard Stimler. Al's family would like to recognize Harry and Audry Morris for years of companionship and friendship and to the many caregivers Stacy, Bea, Jen, Tammy, Edwina, Tonee and home health nurse Michelle. Visitation will be on Sunday, August 6, 2017 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at LaHAYNE FUNERAL HOME , 6955 Southeastern Avenue, Hammond, Indiana. Family and Friends will celebrate his life on Monday, August 7, 2017 with a Lying in State at 10:00 a.m. until time of Service at 11:00 a.m. at Woodmar United Methodist Church, 7320 Northcote Avenue, Hammond, Indiana. Pastor Paul Arnold will be officiating. Burial at Memory Lane Memorial Park, Crown Point, IN after the service. The Salvation Army is near and dear to Al's heart and the family suggests memorial contributions be sent to the Salvation Army, 8225 Columbia Avenue, Munster, Indiana 46321 or to Woodmar United Methodist Church, 7320 Northcote Avenue, Hammond, Indiana 46324.
