Alberto R. Garcia, Sr., age 88, of Hammond, IN passed away Friday, October 9, 2009. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Leonor; 10 children, Grace (Armando) Valenzuela, Irene Wilson, Alberto Garcia, Jr., Dora (Al) Zakarias, Maria Esther (Jesse) Hernandez, David Garcia, Angelina (Manuel) Rivera, Irma Flores, Maria Elena (Rex) Anderson, and Lucia (Roland) Alvarez; 27 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Daniel Garcia; 2 sisters, Tencha Juarez and Beva Hinojosa. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 12, 2009, at 1 PM from LaHayne Funeral Home, 6955 Southeastern Ave., Hammond, IN with Pastor Elsa Gonzalez officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville, IN. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Monday from 9 AM until time of services at the funeral home. Alberto was a resident of this area for 61 years, a retired cold handling operator from Inland Steel Co. where he worked for over 30 years, and an Army Veteran of WW 2.
