Alberta Miller, age 81, of Hammond, IN passed away Friday May 22, 2009 at Brentwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Burbank, IL after a long illness. She was born on May 19, 1928 in Brushard, KY, the daughter of Dembo Smith and Rebecca Calhand-Smith. She was preceded in death by a son, Langley Price, and numerous half-brothers and half-sisters. Alberta is survived by her beloved husband, Ben Miller; was a devoted mother to son, Larry (Mary) Price of Hammond, IN and daughters,, Linda (Trinidad) Martinez of Schererville, IN, Loretta Roberts of Gary, IN and Debbie (David) Flowers of West Virginia.; proud grandmother of 23 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Also surviving are nieces and nephews and lifetime friend, Virgie Meeks. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at 11 AM from LaHayne Funeral Home, 6955 Southeastern Ave., Hammond, IN. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Tuesday, May 26, 2009 from 6-8 PM at the funeral home. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions to the family would be appreciated. Alberta was a lifetime resident of this area who found a love for animals, flowers, working in the yard and taking pictures. She also donated to a number of charities.
